WASHINGTON – Today, Rep. Ilhan Omar (MN-05), a member of the Committee on Education and Labor, unveiled a bill to protect students' access to school meal benefits during school closures. As of March 10,621 schools have been closed or are scheduled to close, affecting more than 430,000 students and jeopardizing access to a critical source of nutrition for students across the country.

WASHINGTON – Today, Representative Ilhan Omar (D-MN) introduced and passed an amendment to the Ban Surprise Billing Act (H.R. 5800), a bipartisan proposal to protect patients from surprise medical bills, in the House Education and Labor Committee. H.R. 5800 requires that patients receive notification 72 hours in advance if the non-emergency care they're planning to receive is out-of-network and as such, subject to higher costs.

The ENSURE Act stops the United States from deporting Eritreans fleeing state oppression by placing a two-year stay on removals; prohibiting the detention of Eritrean nationals during removal procedures; and, requiring up-to-date reporting on Eritreans facing imminent removal.

The 1798 laws known collectively as the "Alien and Sedition Acts" were a set of four bills targeting immigrants under the guise of war.
