Green & Gold Congressional Aide

The Green and Gold Congressional Aide Program provides a two-year paid position for Veterans, Gold Star Families, and spouses of active-duty military to work for a Member of Congress. The salary for this hybrid position is $60,000 - $62,000 per year. Staff are required to work in-person at Congresswoman Ilhan Omar’s South Minneapolis office at least three days per week. 

Responsibilities will include acting as the representative for the Congresswoman within your area of responsibility, including answering casework correspondence, meeting and verbal communications with constituents, organizing and coordinating district events in your issue areas, and serving as a liaison with federal, district, and local agencies. The portfolio for this position is likely to include armed services, Veterans, and Military Academy Nominations, though portfolios change periodically depending on the experience and interest of staff members.

The selected applicant will be expected to operate in a fast-paced office, require dedication, pay close attention to detail, be a team player, and have the ability to think outside the box. Program Requirements:

  • Veteran Requirements:
    • Served on active duty in the last six years; and
    • Must have a terminal rank of E5 or O-3/W-2 and below; and
    • Must have an Honorable Discharge
  • Gold Star Requirements
    • Must be a child/stepchild, spouse, parent/step-parent or sibling/step-sibling of a veteran who:
      • Died in the line of duty while serving in the Armed Forces; Or
      • Died of a service-connected disability during the four-year period within last discharge date
  • Active-Duty Spouse Requirements
    • Must be the spouse of an active duty servicemember who works in the military full-time and are subject to permanent change of station (PCS) orders upon completion of each tour of duty
    • Those subject to Title X mobilization are not eligible
