WASHINGTON—Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) and Rep. Bonnie Watson Coleman (D-NJ) announced the introduction of (H.R. 7477) the Workforce Promotion and Access (WPA) Act, legislation aimed at getting more Americans back to work in living-wage jobs created directly by the federal government. The bill authorizes the U.S. Department of Labor to create a job guarantee program through grants to states, localities and tribal entities where employment is greater than 10% OR double the national unemployment rate.

WASHINGTON—Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) sponsored two amendments that passed today in the INVEST in America Act, the House's bold infrastructure bill. The first amendment requires a report on barriers to public transportation faced by people in poverty. The second amendment requires the Office of Internet Connectivity and Growth to conduct a study on the extent to which federal funds have expanded access to and adoption of broadband internet service by socially disadvantaged communities.

After the unjust murder of George Floyd, people across the country protested their opposition to police brutality and were met with force. This legislation ensures police are held accountable and charged with a federal crime for killing or causing bodily harm to civilians exercising their constitutional right to free speech.

إِنَّا لِلّهِ وَإِنَّـا إِلَيْهِ رَاجِعُونَ"

‎"Inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji'cuun

‎"Surely we belong to God and to Him shall we return.

"It is with tremendous sadness and pain that I share that my father, Nur Omar Mohamed, passed away today due to complications from COVID-19. No words can describe what he meant to me and all who knew him. My family and I ask for your respect and privacy during this time."

WASHINGTON—Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) led a letter to Secretary Mark Esper and Secretary Michael Pompeo today calling for the Administration to provide a briefing for members on the justifications of the recently announced arms sales to the Philippines, Egypt, India, Hungary, and the United Arab Emirates. The letter also calls for a hold on all arms sales until Congress has the opportunity to review them carefully.
