Ilhan Omar (D-MN) unveiled the Rent and Mortgage Cancellation Act, a bill to institute a nationwide cancellation of rents and home mortgage payments through the duration of the coronavirus pandemic. The bill would constitute a full payment forgiveness, with no accumulation of debt for renters or homeowners and no negative impact on their credit rating or rental history.
WASHINGTON— Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) sent a letter to the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) Deputy Assistant Secretary Loren Sweatt today requesting a comprehensive investigation into Amazon's recent dismissal of two employees at a warehouse facility in Shakopee, Minnesota. The employees were involved in organizing efforts and helped file a complaint with a group of Shakopee facility workers to OSHA in early April. The formal compliant came after workers at dozens of Amazon facilities nationwide tested positive for COVID-19.
WASHINGTON— Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) today unveiled the SNAP Online Purchasing Flexibility Act, a bill which would require the Secretary of Agriculture to allow all states that meet the necessary requirements to participate in the online purchasing program by allowing approved retail food stores to accept online transactions of SNAP benefits. The bill would expand the existing Department of Agriculture (USDA) SNAP online purchasing pilot program from 8 states to all states.

While the recently passed CARES Act provide millions of Americans with direct economic assistance, the bill leaves out many noncitizens and mixed status families—even if members of the family are citizens. The Recovery Rebates Improvement Act fixes the major error by expanding the special rule for the military in the CARES Act.
