WASHINGTON – Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN), released the following statement on the first day of Hanukkah:
“Wishing a happy Hanukkah to all those celebrating in Minnesota's 5th district and across the world! This Festival of Lights commemorates the Jewish people's struggle for religious freedom. As you kindle the lights of the menorah, continue spreading light through service and solidarity.
Chag sameach! “
"I voted no on H. Res. 894. This extreme and cynical Republican resolution does nothing to combat antisemitism, relies on a definition that conflates criticism of the Israeli government with antisemitism, paints critics of the Israeli government as antisemites and falsely states that anti-Zionism is anti-Semitism.
"We must stand against any attempt to define legitimate criticism of this war and the government perpetrating it as antisemitism. I am proud to join fellow Democrats in opposing this wrongheaded resolution."
WASHINGTON—Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) and Rep. Sara Jacobs (D-CA) led a letter to Secretary of State Antony Blinken today seeking additional information about U.S. strategies for atrocity prevention and justice in Sudan. The signers specifically ask the status of the Department’s efforts to make atrocity determinations and its impact on U.S. policy.
The letter is also signed by Reps. Alma Adams, Kamlager-Dove, McGovern, Grijalva, Stansbury, Magaziner, Watson Coleman, and Bush.
WASHINGTON—Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) and Rep. Greg Casar (D-TX) led a letter today to U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken asking for a prompt review of whether U.S. security assistance to Pakistan has been used to violate human rights, as well to withhold future security assistance to Pakistan until a return to constitutional democracy has been completed, and to send observers to hearings in emblematic human rights cases. They were joined by Reps. Pallone, Castro, Summer Lee, Pressley, Carson, Lieu, McGovern, Titus, Doggett, and Bush.
WASHINGTON—Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) introduced a joint resolution of disapproval today for the proposed export license for $320 million in Spice Family Guided Bomb Assemblies to Israel. These weapons have already been used in the siege on Gaza, which has taken the lives of over 4,000 children and over 11,000 civilians, making it the deadliest conflict for children this decade. The United Nations and human rights experts around the world have condemned the bombing of hospitals and schools as crimes against humanity and called for the prevention of genocide.
WASHINGTON – Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN), Chair of the US-Africa Policy Working Group, released the following statement on the Resumption of Food Aid to Ethiopia:

WASHINGTON—Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) released the following statement Friday following reports the Israeli military is expanding ground operations in Gaza and the Biden Administration is urging against a ground invasion.
"It can’t be underscored enough: a ground invasion into the Gaza Strip would have disastrous consequences and lead to loss of life of catastrophic proportions. It would risk pulling the U.S. into a rapidly-escalating broader regional conflict. We should fully oppose it.
WASHINGTON—Congresswoman Omar met Thursday with family members of Israeli-American hostages held in Gaza. She reiterated her support for the release of all hostages held and for an immediate ceasefire.
"I was moved and honored to meet with the family members of Israeli-American hostages held by Hamas in Gaza. We must do everything in our power to negotiate the safe release of all hostages held in Gaza. I will remain in touch with regional partners and NGOs to push for the release of the hostages, an end to the unjust targeting of civilians, and an immediate ceasefire."
WASHINGTON—Rep. Ilhan Omar released the following statement on voting NO on H.R. 771:
"I'm committed to peace and a prompt ceasefire. While the resolution rightly acknowledges and mourns the lives taken by Hamas, I cannot support a resolution that fails to acknowledge and mourn the lives of Palestinians taken by the Israeli military. The resolution also fails to acknowledge the Israeli government's military bombardment of Gaza, especially after Israeli officials openly admitted to implementing collective punishment of Palestinians in Gaza.
