WASHINGTON–Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) introduced nine amendments to the FY 2025 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA). The amendments aim to center human rights in trade, military, and foreign policy; respond to the brutal civil war in Sudan; hold governments that engage in transnational repression accountable; create flexibility to respond to humanitarian crises in Afghanistan; remediate environmental damage caused by the use of PFAS at overseas military bases; and remove offensive and antiquated language about Indigenous people from military usage.

The WPA Act would establish a fully-funded federal jobs program, targeted to support communities with exceptionally high unemployment rates. The program would be fully paid for by a 0.1% tax on Wall Street stock trades.
The jobs encompass a wide range of important community services, including infrastructure, child care, elder care, and health care. At $17 an hour minimum, these jobs provide a genuine opportunity for economic security in communities that need it most.
