WASHINGTON – Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) introduced a resolution calling on the United States to become a full member of the International Criminal Court (ICC) and revoke sanctions and visa bans on ICC officials.

The Congresswoman’s resolution comes days after U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio announced his intention to dismantle the ICC, an independent, credible tribunal built to prosecute the worst crimes known to man.  This move would be antithetical not only to American values, but to global stability and international law.

WASHINGTON–Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) introduced nine amendments to the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA). The amendments aim to center human rights in the military and foreign policy; strengthen congressional oversight over the DoD’s use of artificial intelligence; support Sudanese civil society; and hold governments engaged in transnational repression accountable.

The amendments introduced by Rep. Omar include:

Omar #1151 – Bans arms sales to any country engaged in transnational repression against U.S. citizens.

Omar #1152 – Repeals the Alien Enemies Act.

We are in a health care crisis. Our system of care is beyond dysfunctional, driven by profit, and unable to serve the Americans who are the most vulnerable.

In my congressional district, Hennepin County Medical Center (HCMC), the state’s largest safety net hospital, narrowly avoided closure last month after the Minnesota legislature reached a one-time funding deal to bring it back from the brink. That’s a huge relief for thousands of Minnesotans, but it’s just a Band-Aid on a bullet wound.
