“Railroad corporations are raking in record profits — over $20 billion last year alone. 

“Meanwhile, their workers do not even have the basic protections of a single day of paid or unpaid sick time. In the face of these record profits, railroad workers have made a simple, dignified request for the basic protections of paid leave. And we in Congress need to listen to them.

WASHINGTON–Today, the House passed legislation authored by Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) to rename a post office location in Minneapolis, Minnesota after the late Representative Martin Olav Sabo, who represented her current district, the 5th District of Minnesota, for nearly three decades. The legislation garnered bipartisan support from the Minnesota Congressional delegation.

Ilhan Omar (D-MN) and Jamaal Bowman (D-NY) led a letter to Special Envoy John Kerry urging the U.S. to support loss & damage (L&D) funding to help developing countries recover from climate disasters. This  fund should channel new public funding from developed to developing countries to help them recover from climate disasters. This L&D proposal could be a small yet important first step in pushing U.S.

Ilhan Omar (D-MN) issued the following statement after the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) announced the designation of Ethiopia for Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for 18 months. Rep. Omar has been a longtime advocate for the people of Ethiopia, including a Temporary Protected Status designation. In September 2021, she co-led letter with Rep. Joe Neguse specifically asking the Administration to designate TPS for Ethiopia.
