WASHINGTON–Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) will be joined at the 2019 State of the Union address by Habon Abdulle, a constituent from Minnesota's 5th District and an advocate for women in civic leadership. Abdulle is the Executive Director of the Women Organizing Women Network, a nonprofit that empowers women, particularly first- and second-generation immigrants, to become engaged citizens and community leaders, regardless of political affiliation.

WASHINGTON – Today, Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) introduced the Neighbors Not Enemies Act—which fully repeals the Alien Enemies Act of 1798. The 1798 laws known collectively as the "Alien and Sedition Acts" were a set of four bills targeting immigrants under the guise of war. While three of the acts have since expired or been repealed, the Alien Enemies Act (AEA) remains in effect to this day.

WASHINGTON—Rep. Ilhan Omar and Rep. Barbara Lee today announced a War Powers Resolution in the United States House of Representatives to direct the removal of the United States Armed Forces from hostilities against Iran that have not been authorized by Congress. The resolution is a companion to a War Powers Resolution authored by Sen. Tim Kaine in the Senate.

Ilhan Omar, Betty McCollum, Angie Craig and Dean Philips sent a letter to Ben Carson, the Secretary of Housing and Urban Development, asking the agency to conduct a full assessment of national public housing in order to determine exactly how many facilities are currently exempt from sprinkler requirements and how many of those have been retrofitted regardless.

The day before Thanksgiving, families across the country gathered around their dining tables to give thanks and break bread. But many families in the Twin Cities were not sitting down for a holiday dinner — instead they were facing indescribable tragedy. On Wednesday, Nov. 27, a fire broke out in a 25-story public housing building in the Cedar-Riverside neighborhood of Minneapolis, near where all of us grew up. Five people lost their lives that day.
