WASHINGTON, D.C.—Rep. Ilhan Omar (DFL-MN) joined a group of House Democrats in writing to Office of Management and Budget Acting Director Russell Vought requesting he direct federal agencies to provide back pay to low- and middle-income employees of federal contractors who were furloughed or otherwise impacted by the government shutdown. WASHINGTON—Rep. Ilhan Omar was sworn in today as the Representative from Minnesota's 5th Congressional District, making her the first Somali-American Member of Congress, the first woman of color to represent Minnesota, and one of the first two Muslim-American women elected to Congress.
