Congresswoman Ilhan Omar met today with His Excellency Momodou Lamin Bah, The Gambia’s Ambassador to the United States. The Congresswoman and the Ambassador discussed efforts to advance democracy, human rights, and good governance in The Gambia, as well as President Barrow’s initiative to completely electrify the country by 2025 using diverse sources of energy including solar and other renewables. The Congresswoman expressed her support for The Gambia’s transitional justice initiatives, including the potential establishment of a hybrid court.

Ilhan Omar (D-MN) introduced a resolution to condemn Islamophobia, specifically commemorating the anniversary of the Christchurch Mosque Massacre and recent anti-Muslim attacks. This resolution condemns the transnational threat of White supremacist ideology, conspiracy theories, and violence.

WASHINGTON–Today, Representatives Ilhan Omar (D-MN), Sara Jacobs (D-CA), and Brad Sherman (D-CA) led a letter to Secretary Blinken and Ambassador Thomas-Greenfield urging the administration to prioritize protecting the International Commission of Human Rights Experts on Ethiopia (ICHREE) at the United Nations Human Rights Council against premature termination. The letter also calls for an extension of its mandate when it expires this fall.
