As we close out 2025, I want to take a moment to reflect on this year and what it has meant for Minnesota’s Fifth Congressional District.
“That’s Teddy,” said Tim Mynett, husband of the US representative Ilhan Omar, as their five-year-old labrador retriever capered around her office on Capitol Hill. “If you make too much eye contact, he’ll lose it. He’s my best friend – and he’s our security detail these days.”
The newest phase of militarized racial terror in Donald Trump’s America is playing out on the streets of Minnesota.
Over the past two weeks, the leader of the free world has called Rep. Ilhan Omar “garbage,” said she shouldn’t be allowed to be a congresswoman and stood by as his supporters chanted to “send her back” to her native Somalia.
On Tuesday, President Trump called my friends and me “garbage.”
Imagine being a hungry child at school, only to have your hot lunch tray taken away and replaced with a cold sandwich in front of your classmates. This is the reality for thousands of children across the U.S. — all because their parents couldn’t afford lunch fees. Debt collectors are literally chasing down families over school meal debt. For children unable to pay for meals, not only have school districts served them separate food from their peers, but some students are forced to wear wristbands or stamps.
Hello neighbor,
It’s been a crazy month in DC and the District, and the biggest issue shaking up the halls of Congress has been the Trump Administration and Republicans’ refusal to release the Epstein files. The GOP shut down Congress just to avoid voting on the release of the files to protect Donald Trump at all costs. Our constituents sent us to Congress to help make life easier, not play foolish games.
The One Big Beautiful Bill Act that was approved by Congress and signed into law by President Trump last week could potentially have a devastating impact on North Memorial Health Hospital in Robbinsdale, officials said Thursday.
“This legislation is going to devastate the ability for North Memorial to stay afloat, and it might actually lead to the closing of crucial programs,” said U.S. Rep. Ilhan Omar, D-Minnesota.
The Trump Administration and Republican lawmakers’ “One Big Beautiful Bill” that passed last week and signed into law “is the most harmful, immoral budget we have seen in modern American history,” U.S. Rep. Ilhan Omar, flanked by local elected officials and nonprofits heads, declared in a July 10 press conference in Minneapolis.
