WASHINGTON – Representative Sheila Jackson Lee, House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jerrold Nadler, Rep. Ilhan Omar, Congressional Black Caucus Chairwoman Karen Bass, and Rep. Jason Crow today introduced the George Floyd Law Enforcement Trust and Integrity Act of 2020, which is designed to address the issue of police accountability and build trust between police departments and the communities they serve. Companion legislation has been introduced in the Senate by Senator Ben Cardin.

MINNEAPOLIS—Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) today announced four bills in the wake of the murder of George Floyd and the unrest in response. The bills address the need for better accountability for police misuse of force, the violent police response to protests, the President's use of military action against U.S. Citizens, and the need for economic relief for communities impacted.

"As our community has been painfully reminded, deep inequities and injustices persist within our Minnesota community and the country. The loss of one of our community members, George Floyd, has ignited a national conversation on police violence and the continued brutality committed against Black people on a regular basis.

WASHINGTON – Today, Congresswomen Ayanna Pressley (MA-07) and Ilhan Omar (MN-05), in partnership with Congresswoman Karen Bass (CA-37), Chair of the Congressional Black Caucus and Congresswoman Barbara Lee (CA-13), introduced a resolution to condemn police brutality, racial profiling and the excessive use of force.

MINNEAPOLIS -- After George Floyd died at the hands of the Minneapolis Police Department on the night of May 25, 2020, Representatives Ilhan Omar (D-MN) and Betty McCollum (D-MN) along with Senators Amy Klobuchar (D-MN) and Tina Smith (D-MN) sent a letter to U.S. Attorney Erica MacDonald and Hennepin County Attorney Mike Freeman calling for accountability for George Floyd's death. Specifically, they are demanding thorough investigations at all levels -- including local, state, and federal -- into the events that led to this tragedy.

WASHINGTON— Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN), Rep. Alma S. Adams, Ph.D. (D-NC), Rep. Ayanna Pressley (D-MA) and 28 additional Members of Congress sent a letter to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy today calling for the universal, one-time, student loan debt cancellation of at least $30,000 per borrower in the next round of COVID-19 relief legislation.
