Rep. Omar Advances Over $12 Million For 15 Local Projects in Government Funding Package

March 7, 2024

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) announced $12,798,779 in Community Project Funding for 15 projects in the 5th District of Minnesota that was included in the House-passed 2024 appropriations government funding package. This funding responds directly to some of the most pressing needs in the Fifth District. In total, Rep. Omar has now advanced over $52 million for her district.

“I am proud to have advanced over $12 million in Community Project Funding that I know meets the pressing needs in Minnesota’s 5th District and builds on our previous success delivering over $40 million to the district,” Rep. Omarsaid. “This funding will address the affordability housing crisis, climate resiliency, food access, workforce development and healthcare investments. I am grateful to countless community members throughout the Fifth District who brought their hopes and dreams to our office with these project proposals. Today we’re one step closer to making those dreams a reality.”

“While these investments will be transformative for Minnesotans, I am deeply disappointed this package included harmful policy riders. The package included disastrous limits to antitrust enforcement to the Justice Department—making it easier for monopolies to price gouge the American people. It also included a policy rider that makes it easier for the Veterans most at risk of suicide to purchase firearms. At a time when Veteran suicide is on the rise, it is disgraceful Republicans are moving to roll back our firearms background check system. I will continue to fight to end the NRA’s influence over Congress and provide our Veterans the mental health resources they need.”

Rep. Omar championed and secured funding for 15 projects that will directly benefit Minnesota’s 5th District residents. These include:

$400,000 for the City of Columbia Heights Sanitary Sewer Lining
