Rep. Omar Funds $17,000,000 In Local Projects

March 9, 2022

Washington– Today, Representative Omar voted to fund $17,000,000 in Community Project Funding that she previously secured for Minnesota's 5th Congressional District. This funding, included in the appropriations government funding package, responds directly to some of the most pressing needs in her district.

"I am incredibly pleased to secure $17,000,000 in Community Project Funding in this bill that I know will have a profound impact in our communities," Rep. Omar said. "These investments support underserved areas and foster economic development, making a real difference in the lives of so many in our community. I am proud to have fought for funding that will make our community healthier, safer, stronger, and even more resilient."

Rep. Omar championed funding for 10 projects that will directly benefit Minnesota's 5th district residents. These include:

  • $1,000,000 for NEON Food Entrepreneur Incubation Center
  • $1,800,000 for Wadaag Commons
  • $500,000 for Sabathani Community Center Building Revitalization Project
  • $2,000,000 for North Commons Regional Vision
  • $3,000,000 for Minneapolis American Indian Center, All Roads Campaign
  • $2,000,000 for Fire Protection Upgrades in High-Rise Public Housing
  • $1,000,000 for Comunidades Organizando el Poder y la Accion Latina Education Fund, Minneapolis, MN for workforce development activities
  • $1,000,000 for Avivo, Minneapolis, MN for workforce training related to clean energy and green building
  • $100,000 for a City of Brooklyn Center, MN health initiative
  • $4,600,000 for a Hennepin Healthcare East Lake Clinic

This government funding package will help middle class families with the cost of living, create American jobs, supports the vulnerable, and works to help small businesses and restaurants that are key to our economic future. Taken together, the funding for Minnesota's 5th and the funding increases for critical government programs will reverse decades of disinvestment in our communities and strengthen our nation.

This legislation will be voted on by the Senate and signed into law by President Biden in the coming days. A detailed summary of the bill is available here.
