Rep. Omar's Statement on Fall of Assad Regime in Syria

WASHINGTON—Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) released the following statement on the Assad regime fall in Syria.

“We are witnessing a historic moment in Syria. The Assad regime will be remembered as one of the most brutal, repressive dictatorships. This is a watershed moment for Assad's victims, millions of refugees, and the Syrians who have been fighting for years for a more just and free government. As someone who fled my home country after the fall of a brutal dictatorship when I was 8, my hopes and dreams are that the Syrian people find prosperity, stability, and lasting peace. While the future is uncertain, I remain optimistic that a brighter future can be paved. Solidarity with the Syrian people as they continue to struggle for their own future.”
