Rep. Ilhan Omar Welcomes President Biden to Her Minnesota District; Tours Clean Energy Facility
FRIDLEY—Representative Ilhan Omar welcomed President Joe Biden to her district today, meeting him on the tarmac at Minneapolis - St. Paul International Airport and touring the Cummins electrolyzer facility in Fridley with the President. The Fridley facility is Cummins' first electrolyzer manufacturing facility in the United States. The electolyzers manufactured here produce clean hydrogen energy that help decrease carbon emissions and reduce our carbon footprint. The Inflation Reduction Act, which President Biden signed last year and Rep. Omar supported, played a key role in spurring investment in electrolyzers and other renewable energy investments, including at Cummins.
Rep. Omar spoke at the Cummins facility with the President today. You can find her full remarks below.
"Well I am honored to welcome President Biden to the 5th District of Minnesota today. We are proud to be a part of your “Investing in America Tour” to highlight the investments your administration is making to address the climate crisis right here in Minnesota. As you’ve probably learned by now, Mr. President, here in the 5th the weather may be cold but the people have warm hearts.
"For those who didn’t know, this Cummins factory right here in Fridley is its first electrolyzer manufacturing facility in the United States. The electrolyzers manufactured here produce clean hydrogen energy that help decrease carbon emissions and reduce our carbon footprint. Cummins now employs a diverse staff of over a thousand people here in the 5th—and the “Cummins Advocating for Racial Equity” program helps support Black-owned businesses and mobile grocery markets throughout my district. And the electrolyzer facility will add another 100 green jobs created right here in Fridley.
"That’s what investing in America and its future looks like! The success of the green energy revolution in the 5th and across the country is in large part thanks to the leadership of President Biden and Democrats in Congress to make the most significant investments in clean energy and climate change in our nation’s history. Across my district, we have helped establish a new era of American innovation and ingenuity to create good-paying jobs and confront the existential threat of the climate crisis.
"Since President Biden took office, we have been able to add 185 thousand jobs across Minnesota. 126 thousand new businesses have been created. And the President’s agenda has spurred over 2 billion dollars in private investments.
"Thanks to the President’s investments in clean energy, American manufacturing growth now outpaces the rest of the world. And the Midwest is leading the way.
"If we are going to truly address the climate crisis it is going to take bold action and bold investments in the clean energy future. And that is what we are doing right here in Minnesota."
