Rep. Ilhan Omar Visits Planned Parenthood’s Uptown Health Center on 51st Anniversary of Roe v. Wade

January 22, 2024

MINNEAPOLIS, MN— Today marks 51 years since Roe v. Wade enshrined a woman's right to control her own body. This should be a day of celebration, but instead, we are mourning the loss of this hard-won reproductive freedom.

In June 2022, the Supreme Court stripped away the constitutional protections Roe had safeguarded for over fifty years. In its absence, many states are rushing to impose abortion bans that represent a cruel rollback of progress on women's agency over their healthcare and futures. Draconian restrictions treat women as second-class citizens, not trusted to consider their families, health, and lives in making healthcare choices.

Rep. Ilhan Omar brought her passionate fight for reproductive rights to Planned Parenthood's Uptown Health Center. Rep. Omar toured Planned Parenthood's newly expanded facilities. She saw firsthand how they are working to meet the need for care since the Supreme Court gutted Roe's protections.

Rep. Omar then took to Facebook Live for a conversation with Planned Parenthood North Central States CEO Ruth Richardson. They discussed the impacts of the Roe decision overturn and Planned Parenthood's continuing fight for reproductive rights.

Throughout the visit, Rep. Omar reaffirmed her unwavering commitment to defending full reproductive care.

The Facebook Live can be watched here.
