Rep. Ilhan Omar to Host Andre Locke Sr., Father of Amir Locke, as State of the Union Guest, Reintroduce the Amir Locke End Deadly No Knock Warrants Act

February 7, 2023

WASHINGTON—Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) will host Andre Locke Sr., the father of Amir Locke, as her guest at President Biden’s State of the Union Address on Tuesday. Thursday, February 2nd marked one year since Amir Locke was shot and killed by Minneapolis Police Department officers while executing a no-knock warrant. This week, she will also introduce her bill to end deadly no knock warrants, named after Amir Locke.

“I am honored to welcome Andre Lock Sr. to the State of the Union,” said Rep. Omar. “Too many parents have lost their children to police violence. Far too often, no-knock warrants and raids have severe and deadly consequences. We saw the consequences of not restricting no-knock warrants with the murder of Amir, who became a victim of yet another botched no-knock warrant police raid. We also lost Breonna Taylor, who was not the subject of a warrant and was simply in the wrong place at the wrong time. It is unconscionable that no-knock warrants continue to be in effect with little to no restrictions, regulations, and regard for the impact on lives. We have the power to save innocent lives with the Amir Locke End Deadly No Knock Warrants Act, and I am honored to be joined by his father.”
