Rep. Ilhan Omar on Democrats Preventing a Government Shutdown

WASHINGTON—Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) released the following statement on Democrats preventing a government shutdown:

"I am proud that Democrats were able to once again bail out Republicans and narrowly avoid a government shutdown. 

"Sadly, Republicans have once again brought us to the brink of a shutdown because of their infighting. Instead of legislating, they’re now starting literal fights in the Capitol and bringing forward another short-term funding patch that will only keep the government operating into early next year, while threatening massive cuts—including everything from cuts to climate action and affordable housing to extreme anti-abortion amendments. Because of Republican infighting, millions of dollars in funding for vital community projects for the 5th District remain in limbo. The American people deserve better. They deserve more than a short term patch. It’s time to stop fighting and start governing."
