Readout of Congresswoman Ilhan Omar’s Meeting with Gambian Ambassador

Congresswoman Ilhan Omar met today with His Excellency Momodou Lamin Bah, The Gambia’s Ambassador to the United States. The Congresswoman and the Ambassador discussed efforts to advance democracy, human rights, and good governance in The Gambia, as well as President Barrow’s initiative to completely electrify the country by 2025 using diverse sources of energy including solar and other renewables. The Congresswoman expressed her support for The Gambia’s transitional justice initiatives, including the potential establishment of a hybrid court. The Congresswoman and the Ambassador also discussed the U.S.-Africa Policy Working Group, and avenues for potential engagement through its auspices going forward.
